Faces

Rose discovered facial expressions this week. She spent two days contorting her face into looks of disgust and excitement and fear. As usual we didn't think to get a video until she was past her prime . . . but she's pretty cute anyway:

All By Herself

Alas, at the tender age of one my baby has decided that she is capable of doing things herself . . . unless I really want her to do it, of course, then she thinks she is helpless.

Here she is enjoying Sunday dinner last week. Mixed veggies: Yummy and Fun!!!!

Beach Pictures

I decided one day that it would be just too cute to take Rose's one-year sailor picture at the beach . . . we have had a really nice, warm spring. In fact a couple of weeks ago it was up in the 80's. That weekend Jay, Rose and I drove out to Rehobeth Beach. It was a gorgeous day, though a bit brisk on the beach. The water was frigid and Rose wasn't too happy when we let a wave catch her during the photo shoot . . . Rose wouldn't look at me while I was taking the pictures. The sun was a little bright for her, but we still caught some really cute pictures. This is the slideshow of those images along with a couple of pictures of Rose in the cute "rose" dress Mom gave her for her birthday. She is starting to look like a little girl and not a baby *sigh*

See her teeth and hair

Just a few cute pictures of Rosie showcasing her growing number of teeth and her red hair.

First Words

So, we've been trying to teach Rose sign language recently. She seems to be a bit frustrated by her inability to communicate and we figured a few signs might help. One of the most important signs, of course, is 'thank you' and tonight I was encouraging Rose to sign it when she one-up'd me and said 'thank you' clear as a bell. I thought I was imagining things, but nope, Jay got her to say it too and we even managed to get a brief video . . . of course we didn't know she was going to show off, so we grabbed the camera after she'd tired of her new trick. You will thus enjoy quite a bit of Jay and I coaxing and only one or two demonstrations of Rose's new trick . . . and not her best demonstrations either . . . if she seems a bit "yeah, yeah . . . "thank you" . . . great . . . let's move on" it is only because she's way too cool for Jay and I and obviously way ahead of us.

Crawling and Clapping

So one day Jay and I were playing with Rose and she suddenly crawled into the corner, stopped and clapped for herself. When we clapped too she started to speed around the room with regular stops to cheer herself on. This video is the very tail end of that very fun game!

Rose Finally Crawls

Exciting news from Askren-land: Rose has finally figured out forward motion. Yes, after two months of teasing, Rose finally mastered the forward crawl, accomplishing the first of many New Years resolutions a mere days after the ball fell. She, of course, was extra motivated by her mother's week-long, food-poisoning induced diarrhea, figuring that anytime Mom can't move must be the right time for her to start!
